Course Description:

Project-based learning (PBL) has the power and potential to transform the culture of a school community. Through this course, participants will be supported in designing interdisciplinary project-based curricula that is rigorous, real-world and collaborative.

Through this interactive course we will examine the “how and why” of PBL.  Participants will be provided with a solid foundation in PBL theory + practice. Teaching teams will be given time and support to build out a high quality project from start to finish.  Participants will be provided with an intuitive framework to build project-based curricula along with tools and strategies to support deeper learning.  We will explore ways in which teachers can be empowered to infuse thematic, interdisciplinary learning and cross-cutting skills into their classes to ensure authentic engagement and sustained inquiry.

Each day, participants will be provided with time to develop project ideas using a variety of tools, including a web app built by the facilitators while on a 2014 Rowland Fellowship. At the end of this course, participants will leave with models, strategies, and tools to design learning experiences that provoke inquiry and fuel the creation of authentic products that are relevant to students and have meaning in our world.
