Developing Multiplicative Reasoning

About the Course:

Appropriate for Grade 3-6 teachers, math interventionists, and special educators, and paraprofessionals

This 2-credit graduate course will have a series of sessions to learn the research behind multiplicative reasoning through the On Going Assessment Project (OGAP). It is designed for elementary school educators and will include opportunities for the class to examine student work, collect data on students, explore the Common Core of State Standards for Mathematics in relation to multiplication and division, learn the OGAP multiplicative framework, build an understanding of the learning progressions for multiplication and division, share and play games that promote multiplicative thinking, and provide teachers with hands-on practicum work with their students

About the Instructor

Betsy Allen is the Math Teacher Leader at the Hardwick Elementary School. She has worked as a Math Network Leader for the Department of Education and is currently on the DOE’s Common Core Math Network Team. She was a member of the state’s team that developed the Primary Number and Operations K-2 Assessments under the leadership of Loree Silvis. She also teaches a Math Methods for Elementary Teachers course for Johnson State College and is part of their Teacher Portfolio Review Committee.
