Ensuring a High Quality Mathematics Education for All with Mahesh Sharma – Grades 8-12 General Workshop
Target Audience: 8-12 Regular Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, and Administrators
In this workshop we focus on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS-M) with an emphasis on
(a) the intent of CCSS-M,
(b) the content to be mastered by children in grades 4 through 8, as described in the CCSS-M, and
(c) the pedagogy—the Standards of Mathematics Instruction to be practiced by teachers in Grades 4-8 and math teacher leaders in their classrooms as envisioned by the framers of Common Core State Standards in Mathamtics. In this workshop, the focus will be on how to teach numeracy, fractions, integers and algebraic thinking. We will model several of these concepts using the Standards of Mathematics Instruction.
About the Instructor
Mahesh Sharma is known for his groundbreaking work in mathematics education, he is an author, teacher and teacher-trainer, researcher, consultant to public and private schools, as well as a public lecturer. He is the Chief Editor of Focus on Learning Problems in Mathematics, an international, interdisciplinary, research mathematics journal with readership in more than 70 countries, and the editor of the Math Notebook, a practical source of information for parents and teachers devoted to improving teaching and learning for all children.
